Many people often as me IF their diet is contributing to their sciatica. The answer is NOT always a simple yes or no, but giving simple tips on eating can be very helpful. It is well known that what you eat can have a huge influence on inflammation in your body. I have relatives that eliminated almost all gluten products from their diets and have had remarkable results with much less joint pain in their hands and knees. SO, can eating a better diet improve your sciatica? Not 100% but, any relief is better than none and IF all you need to do is change up the way you eat to gain improvement and relief, wouldn’t it be worth it?

SO, let’s go over foods that you may want to minimize due to their inflammatory nature. Those foods include: fried foods (especially deep fried), dairy products, fatty red meats, pasta, sweet snacks, processed meats, peanuts, cheeses and factory made breads, along with excessive alcohol, butter, vegetable oil, sugar and products containing caffeine. All these things have been proven to increase inflammation in the body (though most taste amazing).

Now, IF you are as depressed as I was when first reading through these items, let’s hurry and get to what foods are good at decreasing inflammation in your body. The foods you want to focus on that help decrease inflammation naturally are: Fruits (strawberries, raspberries, black blueberries, cherries, apples, oranges, pineapples, red peppers and avocados), vegetables (tomatoes, green leafy vegetables, broccoli, carrots, sweet potato, swiss chard, mushrooms, beet and ginger), nuts (almonds, walnuts and chia seeds), fatty fish (salmon, tuna and sardines) and beans (navy, kidney, pinto and black), fresh herbs and spices (rosemary and turmeric), green tea, dark chocolate, eggs, yogurt, raw honey, coconut oil and olive oil.
